Travel and
Vaccination Clinic |
As travel advice
is now more complex we ask that you
complete a travel form in advance of
consulting with our Practice Nurse.
Forms are held at reception – call
in and complete one and simply
collect 3-4 days later (to give the
nurse time to research vaccinations
required dependant upon destination
etc). It is then the responsibility
of the patient to make an
appointment to see the Practice
Nurse for any vaccinations needed.
Our nurses will NOT be able to
vaccinate you without a form being
completed in advance.
A small nominal fee must be paid for
each travel form completed by the
nurse
ie. every family member. This fee
helps towards to the cost of
providing this service which is NOT
an NHS service. Some vaccinations
also incur a fee – current costs are
listed at reception.
Mendip Country
Practice is a registered Yellow
Fever Vaccination Centre.
We run a Stop Smoking Clinic which
has a highly successful track
record. If you need help to stop
smoking please do not hesitate to
ask for more information, we will be
happy to help you. When booking your
appointment with reception do
mention if it is for your first
session – a longer appointment will
be booked to allow plenty of time
with the Stop Smoking Nurse.
All the doctors perform surgical
procedures such as joint injections,
removal of small cysts etc. Warts
and verrucas can be frozen in a
special monthly treatment session
run by Sr Beth Evans. Minor
operations take place in regular
monthly clinics and are by GP
referral only.
All the practice doctors hold
special qualifications in
gynaecology, family planning and
pregnancy care. You are welcome to
consult with a female doctor or our
Practice Nurse should you prefer to
see a lady for cervical smears or
any other problems. Smear clinics
have longer appointment slots –
please tell the receptionist if you
are booking a smear test so the
correct appointment can be allocated
and enough time allowed.
Family Planning
Advice can be
obtained from your own doctor or
from our Practice Nurse. Coils and
caps can be fitted at the surgery.
Requests for contraceptive advice in
the under 16 age group are dealt
with sympathetically and in all
cases confidentially. We participate
in the C-Card system which enables
younger patients to collect free
condoms from the surgery discreetly
at reception. Posters are up in the
surgery explaining how to use this
service.
Antenatal and Postnatal Care
A huge
amount of information, advice and
help is available to anyone planning
a pregnancy, or who is already
pregnant. The GP’s, Midwife,
Practice Nurses and Health Visitor
are all available to provide advice
and care – if you are not sure who
you need to see, one of our
receptionists can direct you to the
appropriate person.
We are pleased to offer all pregnant
ladies care in a weekly antenatal
clinic (Thursdays) run by the
community midwife and the GP’s. We
have our own practice ultrasound
scanner, and access to beds at the
Frome Victoria Hospital for
uncomplicated deliveries. We will
also be pleased to provide hospital
care for mothers and newborn babies
at Frome after a delivery in the RUH,
Bath.
In order for us to pick up potential
problems as early as possible, we
offer your child regular development
checks. All the doctors recommend
the full course of baby
vaccinations; please contact
reception or the Health Visitor for
more information.
