Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs). The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount which successive Governments have thought it reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines. Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication.
These charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.
If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months, or more than 15 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC.
There is further information about prescription exemptions and fees on the NHS website
Please request your medication in writing, in person at the surgery, by fax or email to: firstname.lastname@example.org or via the website (simple registration required for website access).
Order Your Repeat Prescription Online
You are now able to request a repeat prescription with the doctor online, using the surgery Patient Access (formerly EMIS) medical system via the link above.
In order to request repeat medication online you must have previously obtained the necessary access codes. Please click here for more information.
Always allow 48 hours (excluding weekends) for your request to be processed before collecting your medication.
We are pleased to be able to offer a free medication delivery service to our dispensing patients – your repeat medication can be delivered to you at home on a regular basis (or delivered to another person you nominate to take delivery for you). Please contact dispensary for more information. On each delivery, our driver will arrange with you your next delivery – so you don't have to contact the surgery to order your next lot of medication.
Repeat medication can also be requested and delivered to post offices in the villages of Holcombe, Mells and Stoke St Michael. This voluntary service continues due to the generosity of the postmasters of these villages.
What is a non–dispensing patient?
If you live within 1 mile (1.6 km) of a chemist (as the crow flies) we cannot dispense your medication. This means that although you may be registered with the practice and collect printed prescriptions from our dispensary, we are not allowed to dispense the medication if you live within a mile of a chemist. This is not our decision! Although we would like to provide all of our patients with a full dispensing service, we have to abide by dispensary laws.
We have recently migrated our computer software to Emis Web, and as standard procedure on this system, the diagnosis for medication is now detailed along with the prescription.
Should you wish for someone else to collect your medication on your behalf, and do not wish them to view your prescription, please advise the dispensary staff who can arrange for your prescription to be placed in a sealed envelope.
Patients on repeat medication will be asked to see a doctor, nurse practitioner or practice nurse at least once a year to review these regular medications and notification should appear on your repeat slip.
Please ensure that you book an appropriate appointment to avoid unnecessary delays to further prescriptions.
The new pharmacy in Coleford is called Coleford Pharmacy an opened on Monday 5th March 2018. Non-prescription items can be purchased there.
Patients can continue to have their prescriptions dispensed at the surgery or they can take their prescriptions to the new pharmacy or any community pharmacy in the neighbouring towns (in fact, anywhere in the UK). The choice lies wholly with the patient.
However, for those patients living closer than 1.6km (or 1 mile) of the new pharmacy “as the crow flies”, 6 months after the pharmacy has opened, Mendip Country Practice will no longer be permitted by law to dispense to you. This will be from 5th September 2018. This 6 month period from 5th March to 5th September is known as the gradualisation period. These patients will then need to take their prescriptions to any community pharmacy of their choice, which can include Coleford Pharmacy.
Patients living further than 1.6km (or 1 mile) from the new pharmacy “as the crow flies” can continue to have their prescriptions dispensed by Mendip Country Practice if they so wish during the gradualisation period and indefinitely beyond that time, or they can take their prescriptions to any community pharmacy of their choice, which can include Coleford Pharmacy.
The current situation for non-dispensing patients registered with Mendip Country Practice, for example those living in Frome, Radstock and Shepton Mallet, will remain unchanged. They take their prescriptions to any community pharmacy of their choice.
Mendip Country Practice will continue its medication delivery service to those eligible patients. From 5th March 2018 it will change to Tuesday and Friday mornings.
Please ask at dispensary if you have any queries.
